Vom Verschwinden

Die neueste Arbeit von Krupp scheint diese Überlegungen Bachmanns vollauf zu bestätigen. Dazu dient dem Künstler eine in ornamental verzierten Rahmen gefasste Metallplatte, deren Oberfläche er mit feiner Goldfolie überzogen hat. Ein Kühlaggregat bewirkt, dass sich die Oberfläche unter dem Einfluss des Atems der Anwesenden verändert, sie verliert dabei mehr und mehr an Glanz, sie wird nicht nur stumpf, sondern letztlich weiß; damit ist die ursprüngliche Gestalt samt ihrer Aussage unsichtbar geworden, sie ist gleichsam erstorben. Hier konzentrieren sich zentrale Fragen, die der Künstler immer wieder stellt: das Verhältnis von Rahmen und Zentrum, von Oberfläche und Gehalt. Die Arbeit führt das Thema von Veränderung, Flüchtigkeit, Auflösung und Verschwinden als bildliche Visualisierung und reale Demonstration sogar direkt vor.

On disappearing

The latest of Krupp´s work seems to confirm these considerations of Bachmann completely. Here, the artist puts a metal plate whose surface he has sheathed with thin gold foil into an ornamentally decorated frame. A cooling unit makes the surface change under the influence of the breath of the people present, it loses more and more of its lustre, it does not only become dull, but finally white. In such a way, its original shape, its statement has become invisible, it has virtually died. Essential questions the artist has kept posing are concentrated here: the relationship between frame and centre, of surface and contents. The work represents the topic of change, fleetingness, dissolution and disappearance directly - as a painted visualisation and an actual demonstration.
